	After working from places like Italy and Mexico, writer Christine Bax reflects on the rise of digital nomadism and the tension it creates. What begins as a search for freedom, inspiration, and a better quality of life slowly reveals a more complicated reality.

The piece explores how remote workers—often in search of authenticity—can unintentionally reshape the very places they’re drawn to, contributing to rising costs, cultural shifts, and local resistance. 	‘De Kaai’ RotterdamDe Kaai is a new neighborhood taking shape in Rotterdam-Zuid, on the former grounds of an old margarine factory. Once a closed-off industrial site, it’s now being transformed into a vibrant mix of homes, workspaces, and public spaces. This ambitious development marks a new chapter for the city, where history and modern life intertwine.

I created a series of illustrations that visualize this transformation, reflecting both the site’s industrial heritage and its future as a dynamic urban district. The neighborhood will be realized over the coming years.
