She was the only female landscape architect of her time; a conceptual artist who collaborated with Rietveld, Bonnema, and Mondriaan. She revolutionized the concept of gardens and gardening and was the major inspiration for the internationally renowned landscape architect Piet Oudolf.⁣

	‘De Kaai’ RotterdamDe Kaai is a new neighborhood taking shape in Rotterdam-Zuid, on the former grounds of an old margarine factory. Once a closed-off industrial site, it’s now being transformed into a vibrant mix of homes, workspaces, and public spaces. This ambitious development marks a new chapter for the city, where history and modern life intertwine.

I created a series of illustrations that visualize this transformation, reflecting both the site’s industrial heritage and its future as a dynamic urban district. The neighborhood will be realized over the coming years.

The piece reveals how items like smartphones, cutting boards, dishcloths, and showerheads can harbor surprising amounts of bacteria and fungi. Researcher Shanina Knighton (PhD, RN) from Case Western Reserve University explains how damp, frequently used items create ideal breeding grounds for microbes, and offers practical tips to reduce contamination.
